MY JOURNEY
I was born in 1979, the youngest of three sons to immigrant parents who moved to England in the 1960s. From an early age, I had a natural aptitude for mathematics, influenced by my accountant father and tutored by my older brothers.
By age 11, I had already passed my maths GCSE with an A grade, earning me the nickname "WHIZZ KID" in local newspapers. Despite the recognition, I just wanted to be a normal kid, enjoying sports and making friends.
My passion for maths led me to complete a First Class maths degree through the Open University by the time I was ready for regular university. Encouraged by my father to seek financial security, I pursued economics at the London School of Economics, graduating with a First in Economics.
Entering the finance world was challenging.
Despite my academic achievements, I faced numerous rejections before landing an internship at UBS in FX spot trading. My true passion, however, was in options trading.
I never gave up. I immersed myself in options trading, dedicating countless hours to honing my skills.
So, after completing my internship at UBS, I joined Credit Suisse's equity derivatives graduate program. The initial years were tough, but my analytical skills and ability to communicate helped me excel.
I became one of the most profitable junior traders on the floor, heading the FTSE 100 options book. Then in 2008, during a volatile period, my team at Merrill Lynch made a record $280 million.
How did I achieve such success?
By developing strategies that worked in a diverse set of market conditions, such as:
✅ A process for analyzing options with calculated risks and profit targets to optimize risk/reward.
✅ A process for researching market trends and recurring patterns without getting lost in the noise.
✅ A process for identifying asymmetric payoffs in volatility products such as VIX.
✅ A process for evaluating the potential of relative value opportunities in terms of spot and volatility.
✅ A process for identifying ways to hedge core exposures in my long term portfolio.
By implementing these strategies, I managed to achieve remarkable success in the world of options trading. To this day, I continue to execute the same strategies and various new ones. All this while gaining back time for me and my loved ones as my portfolio continues to grow in value year by year.
But back to my career at the bank, despite my success, I struggled with the management role I was given because it took me away from trading and eventually left to travel and recharge. When I returned, I spent time as a macro portfolio manager at Bluecrest Capital, but something was still missing.
In late 2018, I founded Options Insight to share my extensive knowledge and passion for options trading. My journey from a young maths prodigy to a seasoned trader taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning.
My goal is to empower others with the skills and insights needed to succeed in the complex world of options trading. Options trading offers a new and dynamic way to grow one's wealth and break free from the mundane.
